Mark Ribbing is the president, founder, and head writer of Nascent Wave. He has deep experience in helping innovation-driven organizations tell their own stories.

Mark has written about the digital economy from the start. During the late 1990’s, he was the telecommunications beat reporter for The Baltimore Sun, covering the deregulation of the telecoms industry and the first Internet boom.

In the spring of 2001, he became a senior speechwriter in the New York City mayor’s office. From September 11 until the end of the mayor’s term on December 31, he helped meet the communications needs arising from the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center.

He then returned to his original hometown of St. Louis, where he worked as a mayoral crime-policy aide and speechwriter. In 2007, Mark moved to Washington, D.C., to become the director of policy development for the Progressive Policy Institute.

Mark joined the Obama administration in 2009 as a presidential appointee at the Department of Defense. He assisted the White House response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and was executive editor for the Department of Defense Independent Review of the Washington Navy Yard Shooting.

After four-and-a-half years in the administration, Mark relocated to Seattle, where he took a position as a senior writer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He managed the executive writing team and wrote extensively for Bill Gates and other senior executives.

He launched Nascent Wave in January 2016.
